with only 100 of those beetles around, the prices are NEVER going to drop unless they made more some how.
it is sorta sad that some people think it unfair, but to be honest, i sorta had a feeling that the reward would actually be a mini pet beetle. It just seemed sorta logical what with the mini pet pig.
it would be hard, though, for them to figure out who had the most consecutive wins as that would require a lot of logging and databasing. scores are easier to keep track of i think.
(i still wish i could get a mini version of my racing beetle though..>_o those things are just freaking cute!)
maybe a design your own mini pet beetle with a fee of like 1k or something and it could only be customized as your own so you couldn't sell it. *shrugs*
wishful thinking but it could be cool xD

YAY! They exist! And they're valuable enough their owners are going to show them off!
Every situation can be improved by having tiny beetles and turtles and piggies roaming at people's feet. The feet don't have to be mine.

Congrats to the racers who got one but I can't help feeling that I was duped by Anet this weekend.
PVE got screwed...... again

If everyone had known the beetle would be the reward for top 100, everyone would have concentrated on racing. Not just you. Don't act like you were the only one "duped by Anet". You made the decision not to focus on racing, not Anet. </rant>
Congrats to those of you that one the beetle fairly

As a lot of people have pointed out, there's a much greater degree of luck involved in this game then in previous special event arenas. I'm much more inclined to say that top 100 scorers were lucky than I am to say they were cheaters.

I have to agree with that statement. Also, I don't think synching like that plays as much part of winning. Getting 460k+ scores for me relied NOT on how many KD's I got, it merely relied on whether I was lucky enough to get an Echo + SRB. In fact, during the extremely lucky instances for me in which I got an Echo + SRB early on, I would already be out of the mini-map range for them to even target me (even on the bridge). Chances are you won't have more than one person scoring above 460k+ per race.

I dont know if your quoting me badly or goodly so i'll just add that i meant that Dragou does deserve the credit as i believe i played with him a few times over the weekend.

Always nice to see luck and abuse(of course with exceptions) get rewarded with items that are selling for 100k+xxx ectos.
Example, a friend of mine that doesn't even know how he got in the top 100, now got is mini pet, sold it and told me "Isn't it hilarious how this stupid pet got me 10x more then your Kuunavang ". (indeed u lucky bastard )
As some1 said, congrats to those u played fairly(all 5 of them... joking ).

I am honestly hoping that 2nd birthday present lineup will have a regular rock or rain beetle. If so, I would guess a lot of people wouldnt be so upset over the Greased Lightning pet debacle. There may be hope for us beetle lovers still...

I absolutely echo that sentiment. I strongly suspected that a miniature beetle would be the prize, so went all out to get one. I must have raced for 14 hours over the weekend. I didn't even go to the celestial pig thing, so didnt even get a miniature piggy as I was concentrating totally on racing.
Got damned close a few times (469K best score) but just not close enough, and that was with no sync starting or anything like that, and only 1 super-beetle and one echo. I just needed that one last piece of luck on the way round, but it never quite happened. Overall I scored 1400 gamer points, equivalent to 200 wins. I realise now though that I should have been resigning if I didnt get the perfect start so as to get back in the next race for another try sooner. Such is life.
Kudos to those of you who got a beetle.

To the OP, would you happen to remember if that was Im A Funyun with the mini in your screenshot? If so, that would be me
That was the same district I was in showing it off in, along with the same place I was idling and the color/design of my characters beetle.
If someone has lots of ecto to spare and wants to get their hands on this rare collectors item, get a hold of me

I tried asking everyone not to kd each other, since the top 100 is timed not who get there first.
Simply race for speed=better chance for everyone.....its a win win>.>
I guess the "Love, flower, peace" beetle simply arent as loveable as a sexy element.
Well, at least I managed to borrow a beetle for the picture collection....not like I call out mini a lot anyway=P
And congratulation on those who get the mini=D

That would be enough for me!!! My whole issue is that I don't want it beacuse its rare, or beacuse it's worth a lot, I just really really really love those little beetles I so hope that they do that, I don't care if it has lighting bolts or not

Thank you anet...you have given 100 players a license to print money. If this sort of activity doesn't encourage more people to violate the EULA and buy ingame money I don't know what will. I agree with all the people before me who thought this event brought out the greediest most selfish nature of the playerbase. I really hope someone from anet reads through all this and more importantly see the corruption a luck and lag based minigame wrought on otherwise somewhat rule abiding playerbase.

totally true. I think everyone should who took place in racing should have gotten one.

^ Agreed with both posts.
It just gives people more advantage on a "quick-rich" scheme.

Yes, I'm sure MANY people wanted to try this "quick-rich" scheme. So in the end tens of thousands of players spend hours on end but only 100 people get it. Seems more like a risk to me doesn't it?

Gee, I didn't know that having a beetle mini-pet was a requirement for me to be able to enjoy Guild Wars.
My life will certainly not be complete until I own one of those virtual pets, so wonderfully portrayed on my computer screen.

My point is the core problem is with the design of the scoring system moreso than of players having the foresight to succeed despite the deeply flawed scoring system.

I agree with you, but have a different reaction.
A great man, Victor Frankl, said that we can't choose our circumstances, but we can control how we will respond to them (I'm paraphrasing, wiki him for more detail; he was a Nazi concentration camp survivor, so he knows from where he speaks.)
So I choose not to let the selfish people who frequent MMORPG's spoil my experience.
